150 Years
On March 23, 1869, in Boston, Massachusetts, Clementina Butler and Lois Parker, wives of missionaries informed six women members of the Methodist Episcopal Church about the desperate health care and educational needs of women and girls in India. No woman India could be seen by a male doctor and schooling for girls was almost non-existent. Their Call to Action raised funds and sent Dr. Clara Swain and Isabella Thorburn, a teacher to India.
That meeting on March 23, 1869, led to the formation of the Women's Mission organizations to address the injustices imposed to women and girls in the 19th century. 150 years of changing the lives of women and children and youth throughout the world. Today we support 94 national and 120 international missions.
Women are busy and serve the church volunteer to help with funeral dinners or decorate tables for the Taste of Christmas or help with sack suppers
